Salah satu bentuk kepedulian para civitas akademika di Prodi Linguistik Sekolah Pascasarjana UPI adalah perlunya terus meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat dalam menggunakan bahasa baik dalam berbagai konteks terlebih dengan berlakunya Undang-Undang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik (UU ITE). Meskipun cakupan undang-undang ini cukup luas, namun unsur penggunaan bahasa menjadi salah satu hal yang perlu diwaspai oleh masyarakat agar tidak terjebak jerat pidana.
Webinar Bijak Berbahasa yang diselenggarakan secara hibrida pada hari Jumat, 16 September 2022 mengundang tiga narasumber yang berkompeten di bidangnya: Dr. Hermawan, M.M.Pd., M. H. (Panit 1 Unit 2 Subdit Siber Ditreskrimsus Polda Jabar), R. Dian Dia-an Muniroh, M. Hum, Ph.D. (Direkttur Pusat Telaah Linguistik Forensik UPI) dan Eri Kurniawan, M.A., Ph.D. (Ketua Prodi Bahasa dan Sastra UPI). Webinar juga dihadiri Direktur Sekolah Pascasarjana Prof. Dr. Syihabuddin, M.Pd. dan Ketua Program Studi Linguistik Wawan Gunawan, M.Ed., Ph.D. Dalam sambutannya Wawan Gunawan M.Ed., Ph.D. menyampaikan pentingnya program peningkatan kesadaran berbahasa seperti yang diusung dalam webinar ini. Disamping itu, webinar ini merupakan ajang yang baik untuk sekaligus mempererat kerjasama program studi linguistik dan POLDA Jawa Barat: “Kami telah beberapa kali berkunjung ke POLDA (Jawa Barat) dan ada beberapa pertanda positif kerjasama bisa berlanjut … dan (webinar ini) menunjukan adanya irisan yang sangat jelas antara keilmuan linguistik, hukum dan kepolisian”
Webinar yang didukung penuh oleh Sekolah Pascasarjana UPI ini dihadiri oleh mahasiswa dan dosen UPI dari berbagai program studi dan peserta umum yang berjumlah 190 orang yang menghadiri secara daring dan luring. Dalam survei yang dibagikan kepada peserta setelah acara webinar, terlihat bahwa webinar ini telah memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam terhadap UU ITE dan tips-tips agar dapat berprilaku bahasa lebih baik agar dapat menghindari jerat pidana pada pasal-pasal UU ITE.
